I had the fantastic opportunity to join Year 5 on camp for the afternoon of their first day of
camp at PGL Kindilan, Redland Bay. The afternoon held the first activities which included
abseiling and a flying fox. Regardless to say these were popular activities but they also
provided some with the challenge of overcoming some fears. I witnessed several students
trying to push through their fears. Some tried really hard climbing the stairs to abseiling
several times to get over their fear or you could see the shake in their hands as they were
releasing the rope to begin their descent. It was truly amazing to see some of these
students dig deep and try really hard. As someone who is not a fan of heights I understand
the challenge. Next was the flying fox and this one was very popular. The most common
phrase I heard here was “Can I go again?”.
The Year 5s were great representatives of St Mary’s using manners and helping out where
they could. I left the staff for their night activities and here’s hoping they got off to sleep
quickly!
In two weeks, the Year 6 students are off to Tallebudgera where they too will get the
opportunity to try new things and challenge themselves!
