Library News

BOOK WEEK:  How great were the costumes for this year’s Book Week! I have to say the boys in Year 6 who dressed as Barbie dolls in boxes were very impressive but there were many fantastic costumes. I sincerely thank you for your support in helping your child to dress up and thanks to those that were able to join us on the day. Along with the festivities of the character parade we held our first Book Fair in quite some time, which raised over $1000, these funds will be put towards new resources for our library.

AUTHOR VISIT:  This week we welcomed Tristan Bancks an Australian children’s author to St Mary’s to talk with our students and he was an asset in our push to promote reading and writing.

WRITING COMPETITION:  Along with the excitement of an author visit we are hosting our first St Mary’s Big Write Competition. In the library we have set up a stimulus for our writing piece which has been inspired by this year’s Science Week theme. All students worked through brainstorming good vocabulary with Mrs O’Brien in their library lesson and then during class time the students will write. The top 5 pieces of writing from each class will be submitted to the executive for judging and one writer will be chosen for each year level as the “Best Writer 2023” and will be awarded medals at our week 8 morning MJR assembly.
