We were pleased to welcome Brad Currie and Waylene Currie to present to our staff some
recent projects Mununjali and our school community have been working on together.
Waylene, a Mununjali artist, has created a message stick to use when reciting the
‘Acknowledgement of Country’, as well as an original art piece titled ‘Waijung’. Waijung is
language for mother, and this piece represents ‘Mother Earth – Mother Mary’, and our
connection to Mununjali country.
Once the copyright process is complete, we will have an installation ceremony with the
broader community to acknowledge this incredible art piece. Waylene has provided
additional commentary to go with the art piece which explains the local community link with
the imagery and art. For example, Gullinini - the Red Bill Water hen and ‘Mununjali Totem’,
represents nurturing like Mother Mary.
